| San Diego half marathonRunning in a crowd of 6000+ people was quite an experience. Of course, I ran out of gas at about mile 5 in the half marathon. But I had to finish, to collect the support monies that were pledged to me, to fund the medical mission trip in october. It was a bit like lamaze class. Concentrate on the next breath. Inhale, exhale, inhale, exhale. Some of the locals were out on the street to cheer us on, with some posters that said exactly this.
Mile 6 was a unique experience. After the first hour of running, with my form and posture going to pot, I experienced a sudden onset of clarity in my mind. I always thought that runner's high was the elation after the long run. But this was very unusual and interesting. This lasted for about 2 minutes before I was reminded of the dull pain in my legs.
The encouragement from strangers who stood at the corners to cheer us on was really helpful. It's a shame that we don't do more to encourage one another on "normal" days. The encouraging words from my supporters came to mind also, as I plodded on.
Through it all, I was able to keep a slightly worse than 10 minute per mile pace. Much better than the LA marathon of 3 years ago.

| Having fun coaching the Redwood Innovations toy challenge team. I wish I had such opportunities when I was young. Now, I am depressed. That "young" word did it for me. | | |
| Fulfilled my civic duty by going to the county government center for jury service. I really could not afford to take time from work to participate in a trial and thankfully, I was not selected. Got to read Grisham's new book, The Broker. Fast and fun read.
Now, here is a great, new toy. What do you make of this? Did the warm up to the next mindless episode begin? Quick question. Is this Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head under the mask?

| My son is wasting time again, searching the web for curious items to donate to me, for my blog. Well, he hit paydirt. This is my favorite scene from the first and original Manchurian Candidate. Frank Sinatra beating up a fake Korean with some of the most terrible stunts I had ever seen. Notice the wrong position of the cotton ball in the man's mouth, misaligned completely with the blow which never lands.

| Had a great day meeting up with friends and enjoying an impromptu bbq dinner at our place. To top it off, my son and I saw the National Treasure movie together, which was entirely enjoyable but quite a bit on the contrived side. It's been raining heavily the past two days. I hope it clears up tomorrow so we can enjoy the outdoors a bit. | | |
